Kick-off event for “kultKIT: German-Danish Encounters”

A new Interreg 5A project

The project is a joint contribution to the success of the merging of the German-Danish border region over the dividing Fehmarnbelt. Behind the project is the vision that after the opening of the Fehmarnbelt tunnel, much of the language and culture borders will have disappeared. Hence, the citizens will be able to make the most of the advantages of the border region in terms of living, working, having an education and participating in cultural and leisure activities on both sides of the border.

Fehmarnbelt region

In the Fehmarnbelt region, the sea is still a very concrete barrier between the two countries, hampering cooperation and development in the eastern German-Danish border region. The project intends to address this challenge by financing cross-border encounters and joint activities in the areas of culture, leisure, education and sport.

Project goals

  • Increase intercultural and cultural understanding of citizens.
  • Reduce language and culture barriers by developing better language competences in the Danish-German border region.
  • Develop a border region inclusivity in the Fehmarnbelt region.
